<p>Many of the buildings which housed toilets or beds have collapsed due to deterioration. The fireplace smoke stacks still remain from those which have collapsed. There are still many buildings left on the premise. </p>

<p>The sign that greeted the prisoners to the working camp Auschwitz 1. Roughly translated it means "Works sets you free" or "Work Liberates", giving the prisoners false hope that if they worked, they would someday be free. This sign was made by prisoners with metalwork skills and erected by order of the Nazis in June 1940.</p>
